Silent Ball

For Middle Level & Elementary • 4-9

Community Level 2 - Familiar

Materials: A ball that does not bounce well, or a beanbag

How To Play: All players stand in a circle. The ball is thrown underhand to others in the circle. If a player drops the ball, throws it out of control, or makes noise (laughter counts), she must sit down. The last player standing is the winner.

Plan for Success: Model and practice how to throw the ball underhanded and in control. Often, a "target zone"-knees to shoulders-is helpful. Also, students not interested in playing can take a leadership role by indicating who is out whenever it's not entirely clear.

Variations:
Rotating Out After the first player sits down, the next player who is out sits and the first player is back in, so that there is never more than one player sitting out.

Questions Every so often the Leader can stop the game and ask a question. All those who answer it correctly are back in the game.
