Community Level 2 – Familiar
Materials: Large, open play space
How To Play: Chose one player to be the chaser (hound) and one to
be pursued (fox). All other players stand in a circle alternately
facing in and out. The hound begins chasing the fox on the outside of
the circle. The fox may go inside or out of the circle. If the fox runs
inside the circle, the hound cannot enter but must tap a player on the
circle who is facing inward to be the new hound. The tapper (old hound)
takes the place of the new hound on the circle (facing the same
direction as the new hound had been facing). The new hound can only
chase the fox inside the circle. If the fox runs out, the hound must
tap a player facing outward to be the new chaser/hound. The tapper (old
hound) takes the place of the new hound, facing in the same direction
in the circle.
When the fox is caught the teacher may choose a new fox and hound or the roles can reverse.
Plan for Success: Model and practice safe movement for the hound in and out of the circle of players.
