There’s more to discipline than just discipline!  Because many students struggle to connect to school and exercise the self-control needed to learn, rule-breaking happens, disrupting learning and eroding community. Further your study of the Developmental Designs approach to discipline by examining specific behaviors and their causes. Learn practical strategies to redirect rule-breaking with equitable responses that reduce behavior referrals and keep your focus on teaching and learning!

During the workshop staff will learn:

  • Important steps to creating a pro-social environment.
  • Create a classroom environment that reduces disruptions by meeting the five student needs.
  • Ways to analyze behaviors and implement equitable redirections that build resilience.
  • Language that is both warm and demanding.
  • How to cultivate effective teaching mindsets to support self-regulation in both students and teachers.
  • How trauma can affect behavior and strategies to support trauma-informed responses.

Get ready for an interactive day of learning!

Just like in the classroom, you will gather in a circle for an advisory meeting. You will  talk, share, and problem-solve with other middle-level educators. Tap into real situations from your own experiences. Bring challenges you are facing with individual students or your whole class. The facilitator will lead you through exercises to help you enrich your advisory.

Workshop schedule

Most workshops begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.

Lunch arrangements for on-site workshops will be subject to the school agreement.

Certificate of attendance

You will receive a 7-hour certificate of attendance for participation in the entire workshop.
